said that there is no audio output device installed.

i want my sound back. someone please help me.

What device update - when did you install - might help?

It was the conextant HD audio update that occurred either on Feb. 15 or the
16. I even went to the device manager then sounds and clicked on install and
update driver. The result was I had the latest driver but the sounds in the
control panel shows that it is not installed.

I hope this works for all. I went to the control panel then to programs and
features. I clciked on the conextent HD audio and then clicked on
uninstall/change. I now have my sound back and it says that it is installed
in the device drivers. So far I have sound. I will keep my fingers crossed.

It worked for me!!! Thanks so much for this fix. I doubt I will ever trust
a Windows update ever again.

hello there,

Try booting last known good configuration, or roll back on the driver or use
system restore in safe mode prior to a date the problem occured.

Taking OPTIONAL drivers from windows update for non Microsoft hardware is
NOT recommanded.

If your hardware works fine: just leave it be working fine.

If an update is needed because the harware does not funtion well ( if it
ain't broke do not try to "FIX" it) than go to the manufactures website for
an updated driver.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Norman, I don't know if you have solved your problem yet, but I had the same
trouble and found a post on this site that fixed it!! I had tried many
different methods that didn't work (removing the audio/reinstalling, enabling
the device, reinstalling drivers etc....), but this finally worked for me.

Here is a copy of the guy's post (I found it under topic: "sound drivers").
Same info holds true whether you own a Dell, HP or other brand computer or
laptop just go to your personal manufacturers website:
******************************************
Found a solution for anyone using an HP laptop.
Go to the following address, type your model number and select "Download
drivers and software", then download an installation pack for the conexant
drivers.
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

If that doesn't get you there, I ended up at this pag
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en
Which has the drivers for vista (I am using an HP dv9000) and it works!!!
I have sound again
