Hi,

I ahve just reinstalled windows xp home 5 weeks ago and i contacted
microsoft and they said i need to pass them some info from my computer and
send the stuff to them but i refuse doing it?. Does anyone know how i can get
the red icon at the buttom of the screen off, it is doing my head-in and i am
thinking of reinstalling windows again.

I am thinking of as well before i reinstall windows that i uninstall sp3 and
put sp2 back on and see if the icon goes, if not i'm going to rebuild my
computer all again.

Thanks

Martin Hickie.

Hello Martin,

For XP they are 2 o 3 solutions, here is two of them Dial-ª-Fix

Go ahead and download Dial-ª-Fix.
<http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix>

Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download Dial-ª-fix
Click the Double green checkmark and click Go.

After it has finished, Reboot

Try Windows Update and see if you can get your updates installed.

OR

You might want to try Eddie Bowers tool:
<www.codeplex.com/aureset>

Let us know what hªppens.

I would not recommend removing XP service pack 3 if it is successfully
installed.
What is exactly the "red icon" you are seeing, as in, what does it say if
it has a popup message?

As to your issue with MS, does it have to do with re-validation?

The Windows XP Home your re-installed came with this pc, right? You didn't
borrow it from elsewhere, right?

Red icon?

That sounds like the security center icon. Lacking anti-virus or malware
software? No firewall?

If it is the Windows Security Alerts icon, it will be present even if
there is an anti-virus application active and the firewall is turned on.
Failing to allow automatic updates will also highlight it. Instead, right
click on the Taskbar. Under Properties>>Customize, set the notification
for Windows Security Alerts to "Always Hide". Out of sight, out of mind.

Problem is that we're not even sure what it is because of no image given...
