My mother is accross the US. We bought a web cam so that we could chat and
she could see the kids. It worked perfectly for 2 days, then I started
getting a message Messenger is not available right now. Please try again
later. (0x8ac70013). It also will not allow me to run setup on audo and
video. Any suggestions?

Greetings Charity,

Which version is it that you're using? If it's 2009, you might try uninstalling that and
trying 8.5 (2008) instead. To do so, just go to Add or Remove Programs or Programs and
Features, find Windows Live Essentials and choose Uninstall/Change to uncheck/remove
Messenger.

You can then download and run the following MSI (Microsoft Installer) file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp

Your mother shouldn't have to change anything though.

Thanks! That fixed the problem. I just don't understand why it worked for
a couple of days and then quit, but I don't guess it really matters.

Thanks!

Hi Charity,

Trust me, I don't understand most of these video bugs with 2009 either. Annoyingly I've not
been personally affected so I've been limited to how much I can assist.

Thank you Jon,
the problem is, now MSN forces me to install the newer version when I try to
login. I'm still getting this problem with video call and voice call. I'm
really disappointed with these newer versions of MSN. A few years back they
were basically trouble free for me, but now there are more and more features
as well as bugs...

Greetings,

There are hacks to make 8.5 work again, I can't say I really recommend doing that.

You might consider just using Skype instead for voice/video communication depending on your
circumstances.

If you don't have Mcafee!!!

This type of error code i.e "0x8ac70013" is related to the video calling
issues of the messenger. The root cause of this error is the "VMWARE
Workstation 6.5.3". I took help of my friend ,he gave me advice to disable
the network bridge known as "VMnet8 and VMnet1 ". I followed this instruction
and now I am not getting "0x8ac70013" error and I am able to make video and
audio calls.

I hope this information will solve your problem.

Disabling the two VMWare network connections worked for me too. I am using
VMWare Player 3.0.1 and only installed it last week. Thanks Diego, after
disabling those two adapters and re-starting Live Messenger 2009 it worked
fine.
