Ivo,
> NIS 16.7.2.1
The above is the *most* likely cause of the updating issue.
0x80240020 WU_E_NO_INTERACTIVE_USER
Operation did not complete because there is no logged-on interactive user.
0x800704DD ERROR_NOT_LOGGED_ON
The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not
logged on to the network. The specified service does not exist.
You have 2 choices:
1) How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
Clean boot XP, ensure the native XP firewall is enabled, then update it.
If the system updates successfully, then NIS is the culprit. IF not,
check the information below about installing the latest Version of the
Windows Update Agent.
2) Uninstall NIS, reboot, run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot, install
security software that is compatible with Windows, and reboot again.
Since you neglected to include the Version of the Windows Update Agent
(WUA) that is included in the WindowsUpdate.log, please check to see if
it looks *exactly* like this:

If the version is less than 7.4.7600.226, download it from here *after*
the system is clean booted and *save* it:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/wi...gent30-x86.exe
When the download completes close *all* open windows and programs.
Stop the Automatic Update service and BITS, if it's been Started, by
opening a Command Prompt ( Start > Run > type in
cmd
Click OK )
At the prompt, type in and then press Enter after *each* command
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
Now install windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe
Restart the system to complete the WUA's installation.
The necessary services ( Automatic Updates and BITS ) should restart,
too, unless they've been Disabled in the Service Console.
( Start > Run > type in
services.msc
Click OK)
AU's startup type must be set to Automatic; BITS can be set to Manual.
