HI,
I use Windows XP Home Edition on my Compaq notebook. I tried to download the
BIT and SP2 downloads but recd an error message saying 8007F004 . I am the
only user on this computer and have administrator priveleges. Cannot
understand why this is happening.
Could someone please help?
Thanks
Ralph

"Ralph",

I am sorry you are running into this issue. Assuming you know the generic
Administrator account password and the normal account you use to log in is NOT
the Administrator account:

1. Log off from your normal account
2. Log back in as Administrator
3. Try the updates again, one at a time, and see if any of them work.
4. Reply back to this posting and let us know how this goes.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Hey Ralph. I had this problem as well.

In my case it was a group policy that was interfering with the updates.

The computer I was trying to update was in an OU that had a GP setting to
auto download Windows updates from one of the servers on our network. The
policy was in Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates> Windows
Components/Windows Updates>.

The name of the policy in that container was "Specify intranet Microsoft
update service location" and it was set to enabled and was pointing to one of
our servers on our local intranet.

To fix the problem I moved the computer that I was trying to install on to a
OU that had no Group Policy and the updates went fine after that.

So in short, you may want to have a look at your domain Group Policy not
your local.
