try:

x80072EE2
ERROR INTERNET TIME OUT

Check your firewall settings it may be blocking,
Turn off any web filters, ( popups etc.)
check for spyware, adware

look at:
You receive an "Error 0x80072EE2" or "Error 0x80072EFD" error message
when you try to use Windows Update

It could also be a proxy problem. If you are connected to a proxy, you will
need to run "proxycfg". Apparently, SP2 comes with the proxy preset to
"direct connect". The simplest way to run this (if you have IE configured to
run through a proxy) is to open a command window and type "proxycfg -u". This
sets the proxy server to the one specified for IE. Otherwise, type "proxycfg
-?" and follow the help instructions to enter a proxy server.

Hi

You receive an "Error 0x80072EE2" or "Initialization Error 0x80072F76"
error message when you try to use Windows Update
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836941

If you have Sygate firewall or something similar, this thread
may be relevant:

If nothing of the above works:

Rename (or just delete) the SoftwareDistribution folder and
see if it helps.

You can use the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the SoftwareDistribution
folder is that you lose your WU v5 History listing (not critical).

(later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution
folder)

Dear Sir,

Nothing of what you suggest helped me. Moreover i performed a clear install
of Windows XP and installed SP2 once more. The problem remains. I get an
error 0x80072EE2. i don't know if my Antivirus ( norton 2005 ) has to do
something ( it comes with an internet worm protection sub-system ). But i'm
not using any firewall ( this means nor windows one ). Can you help me?

Thanks!!!
