On June 12, 2006, I had 13 Microsoft files to update for security reasons.
Of these, 11 succeeded and two updates failed to download and install. These
were: Security Updates for Powerpoint 2003 (KB916518) and Word 2003 (
KB917334). I have tried for three more days now without success
(96/12/2006-06/14/2006). I am using the Windows Live One Care System as my
anti-virus and Firewall program and have tried downloading both with it
enabled and disabled without success either way. Two Microsoft Case Numbers
have been assigned (SRZ060613005237 and SRZ060614002600) but have heard
nothing in response. I also tried the standard ose service correction
procedure as well, without success. Nothing I can do enables these two
updates to download and install. I have Windows XP, SP 2, Media Center
Edition on a new HP PC with 1.5 GB memory in twin Athalon 3800+ processors.
Any help would be appreciated. Notify Ed at as soon as
powsible. Thank You.

If you have ever used a so-called registry cleaner (such as maybe the one at
the Windows Live Safety Center), then your registry might now be corrupted
in such a way as to damage your Office 2003 installation and make it
impossible to update.

If you have used a registry cleaner, you should use its backup procedure to
restore the registry items that it previously deleted.

Otherwise, you can try:

1. In any Office 2003 application, pull down Tools, and select "Detect and
Repair".

2. Uninstall Office 2003 completely, and re-install, then apply the latest
Office 2003 Service Pack and all pending Office 2003 updates.

Yeah, BUGGY MS Windows Live Safety Center register cleaner is the one that
definiately caused Office to not update anymore.

MS reponse-"oh, just reinstall" I say - "WHY DON'T YOU FIX YOUR DAMN BUGS
ONCE AND FOR ALL"

A VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

Try Safety Scanner and have patience to make full system scan.In the process
what ever it suggests go ahead and do t. Also see in services.misc in run in
settings.Get everything running.I believe ,u will have no complaint.If
anything else, then report in this forum.I am just a lay user like u,may be u
hav more expertise in it.U r in group,it implies u r many steps beyond. We can
talk complicated things later on.But I wanna want to tell Live one Care is
for common use and for all,and it is to simplify things which we nromally
face.See your live ID and sign up for Office live.May be u chose office
ID.Sign up nd watch what Microsoft Office does for U.
