anyone know how to help me fix this thing cos its annoying me

whenever i start windows updater it comes up with this code saying i need
some services to be activated else i cant use windows update
services are
Windows automatic updater
intelligent background scanner(for windows update)
and events log

i can under stand the last 2 by all means since its part of the new update
site but automated updates is something i never use for 2 reasons
1 its filling popus always come at bad timed moments
2 the autodownloads are annoying when it starts downloading during time iam
either playing a game or work on the net since it uses extreme ammounts of
bandwith
iam still running on windows 2000 server edition also for some malicious
reasons
i formated my hdd yesterday so iam expecting that it works as normal since
there aint no viruses or whatever in my system and the version i use is
legitimate

You need to enable the Automatic Updates Service in order to be able to use
Windows Update.

You can stop Automatic Updates actually doing background automatic updates
in the control panel Automatic Updates.

You may receive an error message that contains the "0x8DDD0018" code or the
"0x80246008" code when you try to download updates from the Microsoft Windows
Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;910337

Make sure that you have automatic updates turned on.

Make sure that the Remote Procedure Call Locator is not disabled:
Click Start, select Run and type in:
services.msc
Locate " Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator".
If it is disabled, then right click on it, go to 'Properties', change to
'manual' and Apply.
Try Windows Update Again

Microsoft Update was working fine, the last download I did was on June 11th.
Now it doesn't work and I get this error code. Followed the troubleshooting
steps to no avail. Disabled pop-up blocker, disabled firewall, put MS
websites in Trusted in IE Security options, ensured RPC not disabled... still
the same error.
I'm suspecting it's something on the Microsoft end as the only hiccups I've
had with the update process is when Automatic Updates has been disabled. And
so now going through this troubleshooting process with no results... heh,
which update should I delete?

this Remote Procedure Call Locator (service)

it may have been the main reason i couldent update
its not starting with windows logon but on manual ill try to reupdate the
lsit and see if it works for now i gota reboot since hte automated updater
wich i turned off popped up to say i got 26 new updates for u

Click Start, select Run and type in:
services.msc
Locate " Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator".
If it is disabled, then right click on it, go to 'Properties', change to
'manual' and Apply.
Try Windows Update Again
