Errors after Automatic Update

Windows automatically downloaded the new microsoft updates while I was
asleep, now that I'm back on my computer, no matter what I open, it
always pops up the message "such and such has encountered a problem and
needs to close". This happens no matter what program I'm loading. I can
get around it for now, by dragging the error message out of the way,
and not having my window be automatically closed, but still it's not
right, and I don't know what to do to make it work.

Anyone have any ideas? I already went to the microsoft update site, and
installed anything I was missing. That didn't help.

Thanks for anything you might suggest

Do Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/remove programs ; tick show
updates and remove the lastest updates.
Restart computer.

Oh: switch off auto updates )))
