Saying, that there is a content sync error.

This may be related to my post above.

Thanks!

Most likely caused because the Background Intelligent Transfer Service,
which runs in the context of the SYSTEM account, cannot write to network
shares. This is why storing content on a network share is unsupported -- and
in this case, "unsupported" means it doesn't work.

Content must be stored on a LOCAL drive for this very reason -- because a
service running in the context of the SYSTEM account only has permissions to
write to local volumes.

Can you explain why I can not run the service under a user account to get
around this?

Thanks!

Well, *if* you could... dozens of people would have been doing it five years
ago. :-)

Because a "user account" does not have the requisite permissions as the
SYSTEM account does in order to do the various things that BITS, WSUS, and
the WUAgent need to do in order to faciliate the installation of updates.

Strictly speaking this isn't true. If the server is in a domain, the SYSTEM
account has access (subject to permissions, of course) to network shares on
machines in the domain. The security context is that of the server's computer
account in the domain, i.e., SERVERNAME$.

However, this doesn't change the fact that WSUS doesn't support storing content
on a remote share.

Harry.
