Well I've tried all the simple things I know to resolve this error and still
no luck.

Things I've allready tried:

Running update with only this update selected - no luck
Downloading update manually and Installing - no luck

System Information:
Dell 521 amd processor x2 5600
4 GB Memory
Ati 1650xt video card with 512 mb ram
Vista Home premium (32 bit)

Any Ideas?

Ken,

Did/is the system experience(ing) any issues with installing Vista ?
If not, then this update is NOT needed :

I've experienced the same error and had tried the same methods to correct.

Running Vista Ultimate w/ 4GB RAM, but only 3.25 GB is recognized.
Dell Latitude D820.

The symptoms outlined below are correct for my situation other than
Stop Errors - not sure if that was encoutered during intial install.

Same problem with me also. Has anyone solved this one? I've been
searching all over the net for days now.

Hi Jim
I am having same problem with the 8000FFF error and don't have a soolution.
On the issue of memory, I just upgraded my Dell XPS M2010 to 4GB from 1GB.
Initially I was concerned that I too was being short shifted as my system
told me I have 3326 GB after install.
If you re-boot and F12 it and go into thhe dell diagnostics it will chheck
it's memory and in my case it came back with 4096GB.
The system will ttell you that while you have the full complement of memory
- some is taken up by system resources.
Hope it helps
Dave

I have a brand spanking new Dell D520 with 4GB ram and vista business
installed from Dell. I too am getting 8000FFFF when performing the update
of KB 929777. Kind of rediculous that this would occur out of the box from
Dell just from performing windows updates, kinda thought they might have
tested that one. I have no more idea than most of you who have posted here
as to what the problem/remedy is.

I have the same problem .. 8000FFFF installing the updates.
I have been fighting with Dell .. I have a brand new Dell M1210 with 4Gb
RAM, BIOS only reports 4096Mb installed but 3327Mb available ... after much
time on the Dell chat support, I finally got the answer: Dell maps out the
top 500Gb of RAM space for memory-mapped PCI cards!! Another 256Mb for shared
RAM for the Video card and that takes care of 750Mb of your installed memory.
They use a 32-bit m/board with 64-bit processor and ran out of address space
.... not that any combination of peripherals on a notebook would require 500Mb
of addressability!
I won't buy a Dell again ... I want to post my 'experience' with their chat
support, maybe others will get a laugh :-)

As an aside ... Dell only provide the 32-bit version of Vista ultimate, a
fact they neglect to mention on their ordering page (or anywhere else).
Microsoft 'sells' Ultimate as having both 32 and 64 bit versions, other
versions you can upgrade for a small fee from the Microsoft web site. But you
can't upgrade Ultimate and Dell won't provide the 64-bit version. The answer
from Dell "go buy a retail copy of Vista and upgrade it". Sic Semper Tyrannis!

Good grief, thank you! Finally an answer
I've been having the same problem, though I had no issues installing Vista
(and have had to reinstall it more than once for other reasons) so at least
now I know I don't need this one!

Mmm, so - taking into account several responses in this thread are directly
related to DELL machines (mine included) are we talking about a problem with
Windows Vista or DELL computers - or the combination of the both that is
causing the problems with KB929777 resulting mwith 0x8000FFF?
I too am running a DELL XPS-M2010, 4GB RAM with Vista Ultimate as configured
by DELL. Incidentally, the machine at 4 weeks old has out of date webcam
(Logitech) drivers and Logitech reffuse to help saying DELL are responsible
for fitting it. DELL - don't have the up to date drivers to give...
DELL - please seek a different webcam manufacturer - one who cares about
customer service.

Here's a BEAUTY !
Viewing the Microsoft notes stating KB929777 is for machines at 3GB memory
level I tried a test with my 4GB loaded machine.

Turned off, took out 1 SODIMM (2GB) rebooted.
Turned off all protection (av / firewall etc..)
Turned off all automatic features for windows update downloads.
Downloaded KB929777.
Initialized installation.
It said it failed.
By chance I went to view updfate history - it says KB929777 installed way
back on 23/02/2007 !!

Turned off computer, reinstalled 2GB memory back to 4GB total, rebooted
turned on automatic updates - and it now says I need KB929777.
Downloaded it - says it failed to install.
Viewed update history and the 23/02/2007 KB929777 successful installation
does not exist!

It is interesting that I upgraded my memory from 1GB (pre-installed from
DELL to 4GB) at around the same date as the 2GB readout showed.

Back to Sq 1.
