I'm also getting an error message 4397 when attempting to install KB956500 -
all other updates installed OK. I note that 7 out of 10 people found your
post helpful - how can that be when there has been no reply to assist in
fixing the problem?

I had the same problem when installing KB956500 - it downloaded but the
installation ended with a "failure" message box, not with any error message
number 4397.
In my case the reason for the failure was (probably), that one or several of
the Powerpoint Viewer files already on the harddisk were write-protected -
which seems strange (the write-protection was not made by me).
In my "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Powerpoint Viewer\" there were 4
files, all write-protected. I made the files non-writeprotected and retried
the update - and then it was successful.
Hope this will work for you also.

Thanx. for response - solved my problem last nite. Had installed the trial
version of Office 2007, which includes PowerPoint Viewer 2007 and thought
that it would overwrite PPV 2003 - but found out that it didn't. So
uninstalled PPV 2003 and KB956500 installed no problem.

Hi computer whizzes! How did I change the write-protect of the files - as I
can't seem to see anything to tick or remove etc...?
Thanks!
