estimated time remaining

Hello,

Several MS progs and processes show an 'Estimated Time Remaining" box. It
seems to me to be hopelessly inaccurate. The time estimate jumps up & down,
and only becomes meaningful over the last few seconds.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a fundamental law of computers ?

Thanks as always for your help.

K

It is a fundamental law of Microsoft software as far as I can tell.
At least I've never seen MS get it right, but I have seen others do a
reasonable job of it.

Haven't you learned yet that Microsoft programs are very badly written?

Linux and Macs don't do this.....

so its not the hardware that's the problem... especially vista would
report moving and copying times of thousands of days (years).

Vista is ****ed

You're not doing anything wrong. It happens on other installs besides MS
programs. I consider it a minor annoyance, not a show-stopper.

I remember installing programs on my Vic-20 computer using cassette
tape. Now that took a long time and there was no progress indication on
the screen.

Yes, Estimated. Doesn't that impart that it should have at least
relative accuracy?

Isn't it time to return to your psychiatric visits? You are off again and
you could be a serious threat to the vista forum. Better call and get help
right away.

In order for that to happen Mike, a person would in fact have to have
read and fully understood or grasped (compohended) what they are
reading.
It would of course help if they under stood the definition of the word
Estimated and the word HINT.
I may have replied, Google (define:estimated AND hint) Google can be a
good friend.
I Sorry, but your reply to the OP causes me to ROFL.
Thanks Mike, you helped make my day.

This goes back to about Windows 3.1 if I'm not mistaken. :-)

I will sum up your whole miserable life in 1 paragraph.

Its not that you are a retard and have very low IQ that's the real problem.
In the movie Forest Gump, the character portrayed had a low IQ but he
had a positive character or in other worlds he had emotional intelligence.
That's what you completely lack and that's why everyone hates you.
They hate you so much because you are DUMB plus a pain in the ass. You don't
understand why people hate you and that only makes your anger grow.

You are the exact definition of a complete loser that is beyond any help.
Frank too is like this.. that's why you two get along so well.

Go **** yourself bastard.
