Evaluation version build 6001

Hi...

Suddenly tonight my Windows Vista Ultimate OS stated that I had only
fourteen days left of my evaluation period.
This is crazy, because I bought this full version earlier this year, and I
am 100% sure I activated it over the net.

When slipping the computer the original disk, after a while I says that
upgrade is disabled, and that I have to do a clean install.

Are those guy at MS completely gone off the walls?

Is there a way I can reactivate it?
Does anyone know what might have happened?
I can vaguely remember some downloading from a MS site to try out something,
and after that the message came low and right on my screen stating "Windows
Vista (TM) Evaluation version. Build 6001"

I can't do a clean install now!
I fought for months to get everything to work.
Damned if I go through that again!

Of course it is my fault. I should have read the small print (if there was
any?!).
But changing a legit version into a evaluation version without any proper
repetitive warnings, is absurd!

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4

2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. Select your Country.

4. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge).

5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Neowin.Net), All Beta Versions Of Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack One
And Beta Versions Of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Will Expire On Monday June

Zadig, It Sounds 2 Me Like You (Or Some One Else You Gave Access 2 Your
Computer), Installed A Beta Version Of Windows Vista Service Pack One, Just
FYI. Per Microsoft's Announcement Earlier Today, All Beta Versions Of
Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack One Will Expire On Monday, June 30th,
2008, Regardless Of Whether Or Not Your Beta Copy Of Windows Vista Service
Pack One Is Activated Or Not, Also Just FYI. What You Need 2 Do Is Uninstall
the Beta Version Of Service Pack One, Reboot, Then Wait At Least 30 Minutes
Before Trying 2 Install The Release 2 Web Version Of Service Pack One From
Either Microsoft Windows Vista Update (Which May Or May Not Offer You The
Update, As I Have Been Unable 2 Find The Update On Microsoft Windows Vista
Update On All 5 Of My Computers That Are Capable Of Running Windows Vista
Service Pack 0 And 1), Or The Microsoft Download Center Located At
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads, Also Just FYI. Do Not Download Service
Pack One 4 Windows Vista From Any Non Microsoft Website (As It Might Have Been
Where You Or Someone You Know Got The Beta Update From), And Report Any Non
Microsoft Website That is Offering Service Pack One 2 ,
Just FYI.

Hi and thank you, Carey F.

Followed the instructions, and got all the numbers down.
Seems like I got it right too.

But the watermark down to the right remains.
Tried a registry tweak:
[HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\SERVI CES\TSDDD\DEVICE0]
"Attach.ToDesktop"=dword:00000000

After reboot the value of the key was reset to 1 !?!

Dows this mean that my reactivation of Vista did not work?

Like I Told You Before, The Water Mark Means That You Are Running A Beta
Version Of Windows Vista Service Pack One, However 4 Some Reason Unknown,
Those Idiots @ Microsoft Deleted My Post, Even Though It Contained Help Full
Information, What You Need 2 Do Is Uninstall That Beta Version Of Service
Pack One Using Programs And Features From The Control Panel, Reboot, Then
Wait At Least 30 Minutes Before Installing The Release 2 Web Version Of
Service Pack One From Either Microsoft Windows Vista Update, Or The Microsoft
Download Center Located At http://www.microsoft.com/downloads, Also Just FYI.

Then dance widdershins around the terminal. You never answered the OP's
most important question:

«Are those guy at MS completely gone off the walls?»

I would say "yes".

Cheers,

Earle
