Event ID 1517 error after after sp2

I get this error in event viewer ( application) every time after shut down..
This started after installing sp2 or the update to the windows updater
actually. Kelly suggested uhpclean setup.msi from the microsoft site. It
works in that it prevents the error, however , in my case the cure is worst
than the solution. This utility takes almost two minutes to unload the
regitstry whereas previously it took about 15 seconds with the event 1417.
Is there another alternative? Can I re-install the old windows updater which
did not pose this problem? The microsoft utility uphclean identifies
schost.exe(856) and schost.exe(1036) as the culperts not unloading the
regisrty. Any help appreciated. Thank you
