First of all, I am what maccies call a "switcher". I come from the mac, not
because I didn't like OSX, but because I just wanted to try the new windows
vista. I expected better, but I like it a lot. Still, I have some suggestions:
1- The other day I ran this program of yours that lets you know wether your
computer is ready to run Windows Vista or not, and then suggests which
version of the os suits your hardware better. I ran it three times and I was
pleased to see that my notebook was not only able to run Windows Vista but to
run the greatest version of them all: Ultimate. Since I coudn't afford
Ultimate I bought Home Premium. Ereased my hard drive and made a fresh
install. However, the moment I installed it, event id 5032 started appearing
in the event viewer.
For those of you unfamiliar with this event, here is the description you'll
find on Microsoft Technet:
"In specific situations when memory resources are extremely low,
Windows cannot display the notification message that a program has been
blocked and does not give the user the opportunity to instruct the firewall
to allow the program in the future. Because this results in the program
continuing to be blocked, this failure is not considered a security risk, but
it does prevent the user from running applications that might be required."
They suggestes I buy more memory. My suggestion is not to recomend windows
vista ultimate just because it costs 600 dollars, if a computer can't handle
it.
2- after installing vista the windows update started downloading updates. I
took a look at the event viewer and found 233 errors, wich then became 697,
and 800 by the time all the updates were downloaded. They were all the same
error, because they happened at the same excat time, and had the same id:
4385. Here's the description:
"Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update
932818-22_RTM_LDR from package KB932818(Update) into Staging(Staging) state"
There's another post about this event on this page, but there are only 2
unconclusive responses. I checked the internet for days trying to find a
solution, with no luck. It seems that no one knows how to fix it. I found a
guy who was claiming he called microsoft for help, and they said to him this
was completely normal, "nothing to worry about". However, it is not normal,
it is unacceptable.
This event usually comes with another event: 4375. There seems to be a
solution for this one on Microsoft Technet. It involves the command prompt:
you have to type a command and that's it. However, I'm spanish (as I'm sure
you've allready noticed by the way I write), and Microsoft Technet
automatically transaltes every article in its database to spanish for us to
undertsnad, which is great, but it translates the commands too, which makes
them useless.
So, my suggestion is not to translate the commands to spanish or anyother
language, and to solve event id 4385, because 800 errors are too much.
3- Make Windows Media Center compatible with Raw files. It's a lot of work,
and it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it woud make the program perfect.
these are my suggestions. Love vista so far
