Hi All

New to vista and seem to have 2 problems;

1. when trying to run event viewer I receive the following error
message; 'event log'
(http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/#) service is unavailable. verify that
the servie is running.

2. When trying to run a system health report nothing happens but the
following error message;
an error occured while attempting to generate a report. the interface
is unknown.

any advice on how to fix?

thanks in advance
Martin

Hi Marty--

I've seen this occur before. The files are corrupt.

I'd try three things:

1) SFC (System File Checker) It has been reconfigured under the hood a bit
differently in Vista but works the same.
Get an elevated cmd prompt by typing cmd in search above the start
button>right click cmd when it pops up>run as administrator. Type at
prompt: sfc /scannow

2) If you have Vista DVD: Run Startup Repair:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial148.html

3) If Startup Repair does not work, Run the bootrec.exe tool by using these
switches. You access the command prompt from the DVD on the same menu as
Startup Repair:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-us

Bootrec.exe /fixboot
Bootrec.exe /fixmbr
Bootrec.exe /scanos
Bootrec.exe //RebuildBcd

Good luck,

CH

thanks for the reply Chad, sadly have tried all three solutions and
none have worked, I've even now done a complete restore and still the
same problems. Have no idea what it is and have search all over the net
with no luck, if you or anyone else has suggestions please help!!

Thanks
Martin
