Event Viewer Anomaly

Since the last round of Critical updates I've noticed an Anomaly when using
the Event Viewer. Start||Run type "eventvwr", or open it by right clicking
on My Computer and selecting 'Manage".

Normally, if one highlights a System Event or Application Event in the Event
Viewer and right-clicks on that Event and chooses Properties, there is a
link at the bottom of the Properties dialog box that normally redirects you
to the Event ID page at MS that is then shown in the Help and Support Center
viewing pane.

Recently, this function is not working properly, instead of being redirected
to the Event ID page, I'm redirected to a Microsoft page that states:

"We're sorry, but we were unable to service your request."

This is happening on three different machines at two different locations.

Is anyone else experiencing this Anomaly?
Is this a Microsoft Server problem?
Is it possible that a recent Security update has broken this functionality?
Has MS abandoned this functionality?

I first noticed this anomaly on Sunday the 14th and thought I'd give it a
couple of days to see if it would clear up(thinking it was a MS Server
issue), but after three days there is no change in the broken functionality.
Again this is happening on multiple machines with Windows XP Home at
multiple locations.

Sorry if this is off topic, but thought someone here might shed some light
on why this is suddenly happening.

Yep, same thing is happening to me. I just went and looked after reading
your Post. Get the same page and message as you say.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to know I'm not alone in the sinking ship)

They do have page where you can enter your Event ID manually and get to
the corresponding page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sup..._advanced.aspx

But I'm sure missing the ease of going directly there from the Event Viewer
link.

Thanks for posting this issue, Donald. FWIW, same behavior on my system.
I *think* there's a reworking of the MS Product Support Services.
There *use* to be a phone number where one could call in for free
support for update issues but that's missing, too.
Would be nice if MS informed the MVPs of this "reworking" so that we
could pass on the info, but apparently we're out of the loop, too.

Hi MowGreen,

You're certainly welcome. LOL...looks like they've kept everyone including
the Janitor at One Microsoft Way out of the loop on this issue) If you do
become privy to any further Info feel free to post back to this thread. In
the mean time I'll keep going thru the back door to get Event ID
information.

At this point I'm just happy to know it wasn't me that screwed
up this functionality on my Home Network)
