I noticed yesterday that I am unable to view the event log. When I
start the event viewer through the Control Panel/Administrative Tools, I
am given the dialog to continue, but after continuing, the window does
not appear. This also happens with the task scheduler. I also tried to
run the event viewer from the command line, but the same thing happens.

Any ideas ???

thanks.

Hi, amiganation.

Are you an Administrator? Are you logged on as such? Even then, you
probably will need to enter the Administrator's password to run the Event
Viewer. (Sometimes the UAC window is hidden behind other windows and you
might have to search for it.) You also can run Command Prompt *as
Administrator*; in this window, all apps run elevated.

Yes, I am an administrator. The uac windows does come up which
acknowledge
When I tried to run the event viewer from the command line, I did ope
the cmd as adminstrator. Some of the other plugins do run, for exampl
the odbc. The
task scheduler also exhibits the same behavior as the event viewer

I ran sfc to see if that would help , and had a few errors which coul
not be repaired. Might these items have something to do with the even
viewer not showing up

Back during the Vista betas I had a similar problem,
it turned out to be NOD32 antivirus. NOD32 came
came out with a fix and the problem went away.

Have you installed any new software? You could
try uninstalling any new software right around the
time the problem started. Or, try using a restore point.

I was hoping I could figure out what the issue is, and not have to star
deleting software, or do a repair. Important window components shoul
not be at the mercy of new software being installed

Hi, amiganation.

I kept waiting, hoping someone would come to your rescue. Sorry that didn't
happen.

But you are probably right: If SFC didn't fix the problem, a repair install
may be the next step. It will at least preserve most of your installed apps
and tweaks.

I had to do a repair install (also known as an in-place upgrade, "upgrading"
from Vista to Vista) a month or two ago. It wasn't hard, just long and
tedious, as the computer ground away and I had to wait through many long
periods (20 minutes or more) of black screens or other forms of "no
feedback", plus several reboots. Then Windows Updates - again. The whole
process took about 6 hours, including re-tweaking. But you've been stalled
for a week already, so a half-day might be a reasonable price to pay.

Good luck. Let us know how it works out for you.
