Ever seen this before?

I dont know if this is the right place to post this, but a couple of time it
has told me it couldnt do one thing or another because of some kind of
security issue. If this goes somewhere else please let me know..
My computer is doin some weird stuff HELP?
Ok I woke up this am and booted up my pc.. I have no working taskbar, no
start button, my apps wont run, like my spyscanners or Winamp, and all of my
icons looke like they have shadows around them. I can get on the internet,
but I dont have any tabs or favorites at the top. and behins the arrow for
forward page and backward page, there is no color, just looks like the
symbols are sittin on my desktop. I cant run ang virus checker or anything, I
cant load messenger. I tried re booting, settin back a week. and a month, and
I tried to reformat, nothing would work..It would format to a certain point
then just stop. when I hip Ctrl+Esc.. only way I can get my programs, all the
programs are gone, my faves are still there but the saved programs arent
there. And when I minimize a window it disappears. I cant download anything
from the net either. Can someone PLEASE help me here, I have never ever seen
anything like this before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello Airbaby,

What OS are you talking about? Sounds like a workstation OS. Did you have
changed anything before it started, new software etc.?

It kind of sounds like explorer.exe isn't running for some reason. This is
the system executable that provides much of the Windows UI, such as the
taskbar and the start button. Usually, an instance of this starts up
automatically when you boot up the machine, but maybe something is going
wrong. This is an insanely complex and extensible program; third-party
software vendors often insert plug-ins into it, and these sometimes
misbehave.

You can check this by running Task Manager and looking at the list of
processes (click "show processes for all users" so that you see everything).
See if you see explorer.exe in the list. If it's not there, then you can
easily start it using Task Manager. It will probably fail to run, of course,
but the error message might be informative.

If explorer.exe is running, then I'm out of ideas. :-)

I am workin on XP Pro..No new hardware or softwre, shut it down last night
started this m and had a bunch odd things ==I had no start button and all the
previos things I had previouslt mnetioned Another guy ahad mentioned that the
explorer,exe wasnt running, so he suggsted t open my taskmanager howver I hit
cntrl and alt an delete an it wwouldnt run run, no appwill start at all;;

i already tried to reformatt, it get part way through and it locks up, it is
an original disk
