Ok, let me just start of with a fue complaints entitled 'what was the point
of service pack 2?' Firstly, the explorer changes dont make a differnce and
make things worse, for some reasons it even blocks pop-ups from windows own
site? As well as that, mozzila fire-fox is much quicker to load up, so I dont
use the windows explorer anyway. Secondly, I have been done, had, ripped of
with service pack two. I have an error every time I load up and it would seem
everything else generates one to. Oh and hears the best bit, sp2 REMOVES
older programmes that are useful to students like me. For example, word pad
is removed, whats the deal with that? So we are forced to buy microsoft
office? Im not asking you to write a email telling me how I am somehow a
'valued customer' or any twaddle like that, I just want to know why and is
there some way where you can get back the things I have lost from service
pack 1? Please If you feel the same, or I am just going mad send in a post to
this thread. Thankyou, Pete

You can control that.

You mean Internet Explorer :-)

What is the error?

That doesn't really give us much to go on.

No, it doesn't remove Wordpad. If you go to start, run, and type wordpad
<enter>, or write <enter>, I'll bet it launches...

Nor would I attempt to do so. Very few people who hang around these NGs work
for MS, and even those who do would be unlikely to know whether you were a
valued customer or not. <g>
This is a public newsgroup and most people who reply in here are
volunteering their own time to help others - note that ranting may
significantly decrease the odds that you get the help you desire.

Uninstall SP2 if you like.

I truly do understand your frustration, but please not that most SP2
problems have to do with existing underlying problems in your installation
of Windows already. That, and problems with older device drivers. I've
installed SP2 on clean-ish Windows XP on new-ish hardware and had no
problems. I've had SP2 problems on older hardware, even with clean installs
of Windows.

Get the latest drivers from your hardware mfr - BIOS, NIC, video, audio,
etc...and save them on your hard drive. Install them. Run AdAware/Spybot,
etc., to clean your computer of spyware. Run disk cleanup to get rid of temp
files. Defrag your hard drive. Wave a chicken foot over your monitor, and
try again?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/oemlinks.mspx may help if you have a
brand name computer.

Good luck!
