Excel 2007 Opens 20 documents when accessed

Good afternoon,

New user to Windows 2007. Each time I open Excel, documents start opening
and I am unable to stop or 'x' out. Once the opening of 20 documents is
complete, I have to 'x' out of each document. Once complete, I am able to
work in Excel.

Our IT states there is a bug; that was two weeks ago, still no help on that
end.

Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try OpenOffice.org instead?
