I can't get Excel to function - I think it's got something to do with a
windows update for SP3?? When I try to open Excel it opens up a "Windows
Office XP Professional with Front Page" message, saying it can't find a file
'PROPLUS.MSI'..??

I don't have a clue what's going on - anyone help?

You receive an “Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files,” error message :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298021/en-us

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down
to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix".

I went to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scrolled down
to Item No. 171 (right column), clicked on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI
Fix". It asked me to run a program to update the registry. I said OK. It
updated the registry, but even then I am not able to use EXCEL any more. What
is more, I can not even uninstall the SP3, or restore to a previous check
point. I do not know what to do. I am completely helpless.

You have not answered ... do you have the original XP Office CD? That is
the key to solving your problem.
