Hi,
my exchange 2007 server is currently having issues with free / busy data,
OOF & OAB.
I have found this article on the net and the issues described in it are
exactly what I am seeing on my server.

http://www.informit.com/guides/conte...ver&seqNum=249

My question is that there has been a autodiscovery forward look up record in
the DNS manager.
Are there any dependancies on this record already?
Should i delete what is in DNS already and recreate the correct record with
the guidance of this document?

Recreating a DNS entry will do nothing if the entry is already
configured properly. Have you verified that?

Not sure if this will help or not:

Problem Description:
================
OOF does not work with the error message: "Your out of office settings
cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try
gain
later"

Assessment:
===========
1. OOF works fine in OWA and the problem only occurs when access OOF in
Outlook 2007.
2. Test Auto configuration from client, fine.
3. Collected ETL trace, no error.

Resolution:
=========
Apply the suggestion in the following KB article:

Outlook 2007 crashes after you install a package that contains the .NET
Framework 3.5 with SP1 and the .NET Framework 2.0 with SP2 on an
Exchange
2007 Client Access server

Hi
from my last post above this one, i'm not 100% sure that autodiscovery is
working, which is something the article you refer to is saying is working
correctly.

Thanks

Did you create an autodiscover record in your public zone? Such as:
autodiscover.yourexternaldomainname.com

Did you purchase a UNC/SAN cert with this name as one of the names in the cert? This is important for outside clients using Outlook Anywhere (previously known as RPC/HTTPS).

Have you checked with the following site if your Outlook Anywhere and other Exchange 2007 functions work from the outside world? (Note - This is a Microsoft testing tool that is valuable in determine configuration errors).

Microsoft Exchange Server Remote Connectivity AnalyzerMicrosoft Exchange Web Services Connectivity Tests. ActiveSync Provider AutoDiscover ... etc...
https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/

If you haven't purchased a UNC/SAN cert, and not sure how to go about it, check with the following link that shows you exactly how. I like this site, and have purchased a few certs from them for my customers. I usually add the following names to the cert in the wizard, which helps you create a cert request command to run in the Exchange 2007 command shell.

mail.PublicDomainName.com
autodiscover.PublicDomainName.com
exchServerInternalNetBIOSname.internalADdomainName .net
exchServerInternalNetBIOSname

New-ExchangeCertificate CSR Tool | Create your Exchange 2007 CSR ....New-ExchangeCertificate Command Wizard: Fill in the details, ... etc
https://www.digicert.com/easy-csr/exchange2007.htm

Once this is all setup and working, I've found everything works nicely, including Outlook Anywhere, OOF, availability service and F/B service. I have customers with remote laptops that are both joined to the domain and not joined to the domain, that have no problems configuring an Outlook Anywhere profile using Outlook 2007 (which does it automatically) or using Outlook 2003, including through firewalls and behind Proxies at their locations. It just works...
