I'm getting this error whe trying to upgrade Exch 2007 to sp2: (I did the
registry key for it already)
"an error occurred. the error code was 3238230758. The message was extending
the schema in the active directory failed. Please consult the error log
LDIF.ERR in your TEMP directory."
The LDIFF.ERR error is this:
"The connection cannot be established
The error code is 8224"

Please advise and thanks.

Hello John,

Thanks for your post and Susan's input.

First, please refer to the above SBS official blog article(as well as KB 973862) and try to install Exchange 2007 SP2 again on your SBS 2008 server. However if the issue
persists, you may consider performing a preparation of Active Directory directory service and domains for installing Exchange Server 2007 SP2 to repair domain schema:

Commands:

setup /PrepareAD [/OrganizationName: <organization name> ] or setup /p [/on:<organization name>]

How to Prepare Active Directory and Domains
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb125224.aspx

If the SP2 still cannot be installed, run dcdiag & netdiag and see if the report log is clean. Also, please check and post back any detailed error in setup log available in c:
\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log.

Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,
Robbin Meng(MSFT)

Yes, I read it. I did the registry thing (which someone shouldn't have to
do) and then got the error below:

"an error occurred. the error code was 3238230758. The message was extending
the schema in the active directory failed. Please consult the error log
LDIF.ERR in your TEMP directory."
The LDIFF.ERR error is this:
"The connection cannot be established
The error code is 8224"

I cannot believe Microsoft is making this hard. SBS2003 was easier than
this.

Why again do you need SP2?

If this is for the popconnector to pull down emails, you don't need this
service pack.

Actually, I guess you have to look at the registry key thing from
the perspective that Microsoft is doing you a favor by forcing you to read
the KB article before proceeding. I agree that the process is klunky and
unprofessional, but it is better than some of the alternatives. And at least
they have a KB on it...
