Hi All,

Help! I just picked up responsibility for an
WS03 SBS Exchange server. And the directions do
not match my server. To say the least, I am confused.

Exchange System
Microsoft Corporation
Version: 6.5.7638.1

I am on: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...EXCHG.65).aspx

It says to open the "Exchange System Manager", which I have.
Then it says to open a folder called "Administrative Groups"

According to the picture in the above web page, I
should have:
Global Settings
Recipients
Administrative Groups
Tools

Not finding it. I have:
Global Settings
Recipients
Servers
Connectors
Tools
Folders

I need to get to the "System Policy" in the
"Administrative Groups". What in the world am
I missing?

Many thanks,
-T

You're in the wrong display mode, goto Action->Properties and turn on
"Display routing groups" and Display administrative groups".

I gather you are trying to create a policy to delete junk mail or something?

PS: Remember with SBS always use the wizards, connectcomputer, etc.
(in your case there is no wizard for this so carry on ;-) )

-T,

Since you "just picked it up", please install and run a scan with the SBS
2003 BPA to get a baseline of the health of your server configuration and
installed apps/security updates:

Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Best Practices Analyzer
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

And to repeat what Al said: USE THE (BUILT-IN) WIZARDS for as much
administration as possible. The components in SBS (Exchange, Sharepoint,
etc.) are highly integrated. Manually administering them can poses
challenges.

I am curious, too, why access to Administrative Groups is needed on an SBS
box. :-)

I remember having the same issue years ago when creating a junk mail folder
cleanup policy. It may be possible from the other view but the instructions
assumed this view IIRC.

I would imagine meaning to create a Junk mail delete items after so many
days policy can be done with a Recipient policy. Admin groups are to divvy
up administrative control, or to create such things as a System Policy
container and control permissions on that admin group so no one else can
mess with the policies, etc. I haven't seen the KB describing what you are
referring to, so I'm unable to comment on that.
