I have a lot of photos (40Gig) and I'd like to put them on my computer, but
not have them included in my weekly backup. Is there a place that I can put
them that does not get backed up using the Vista Backup function?

I have them on DVDs and external hard drives.

Thanks, CB

When you go into the backup settings, there are checkboxes for types of
files to backup.

The 'other' category is where you would have to chose those to be included
at all.

You might also exclude them by putting them in the %TEMP% folder, as long as
you don't run Disk Cleanup or schedule it to run.

To my knowledge, there is not a good way to exempt certain folders or files
from the backup system that is in Vista. You can only exempt by filetype
which is done by selecting or un-selecting the types of files that are to be
backed up during the setup phase of the backup. I think that being able to
do what you want would definitely be an improvement to the Vista backup
system.
