Expired Windows Digital Certificates

On trying to do a manual update, I checked out the digital certificates and
found them expired and in one case, it said that it could not verify
revocation status. This is directly off of the Update site. How can we trust
updates that aren't even carrying valid certificate dates? Also, why aren't
these updates being done over SSL, at the very least?

The expired certificates include the Microsoft Windows Publisher with this
message.."Revocation Status : Offline. Effective Date <Wednesday, August 24,
2005 12:12:05 PM> Next Update <Saturday, October 15, 2005 1:00:00 AM>"...

This does NOT build my confidence....

Cheers,

Chana
