With Windows explorer I have the following problem:
Often when I have chosen a folder for copying or cutting (marked blue), the
options 'cut' and 'copy' under 'file' appear greyed out. Then I have to try
with right mouse key to get quick menu, and there I can cut or copy as
usual.

It is blue because the file or folder is compressed and obviously then the cut and copy will be grayed out

No, I mean the blue of selecting by one left mouse click.
Besides, (as I wrote) the SAME folder CAN be cut or copied by using the
(right mouse click) quick menu.

I always use those for text and graphics, but I never knew they can be used
in explorer for copying files too!
Perhaps that's a good idea, going to try it when I have the laptop on.

They typically work whenever the brains at MS have decided that you
should not cut-n-paste with the mouse.

I find them very helpful in many file dialogs where MS has denied me
that ability via the mouse.

It works on laptop, and also on my W2000 PC.
Never too old to learn... :-)

(sorry to hi-jack thread for a communication)

Hi Bob,

Did that script I posted in xp.general assist you in your dating of the
folders?
