Somewhat similar to other problems but crashes happen randomly and without
reason. Restart cleanly and works for a period of time. Tried scanning for
virus but no luck. Home Premium on Dell Inspiron 6400.
Also problem with Vista switching to Basic because of Live Writer.
Any ideas

Apart from Live Writer, have installed any software or devices that might
triggering these crashes? Can you boot into Safe Mode, open the Event Viewer
to see if there are any logged reports that might give a hint of hardware
failure or service that might help in better diagnosing the problem?

I would also check Problem Reports and Solutions to see if there any
solutions to problems you might be encountering.

I too am having this same probelm and several of the forums are showing
an iincrease in this problem. Some have indicated 'cookie' problem, but
I have no such issue and am still troubled by the restarts......

Solutions center:

You have nvappfilter.dll on your system, don't you? What happens if you
update or remove that third party tool?

Search for that file on your system. nvappfilter.dll is a specific file
name.

Hi Mark

I have the same or a similar problem; IE7 crashes intermittently and so does
WMP 11 (Windows Media Player). Firefox and other media players don't. Have
reset codecs to original defaults.

Also, sometimes, perhaps unrelated - some website will not display at all -
for no reason - I doubt that Microsoft went offline and back online while I
rebooted.

Next time it all happens I will record the data error for posting
