Explorer keeps trying to open when I stat my computer

I just got a computer with Vista and when I start my computer, explorer keeps
trying to open automatically, even though I am not connected to an internet
connection,when I'm am trying to use excel, etc. offline.
how can i disable this in the startup menu?

Are you talking about Internet Explorer or explorer.exe? explorer.exe is
Windows Explorer which is your desktop.

If Internet Explorer is opening automatically then it sounds like you have
some type of spyware on your computer.

T.Y. I'll try do a virus scan again and see if it picks anything up.

Spyware is not a virus. You will need an anti-spyware program.

Spybot or Windows Defender are free.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads - Search for Windows Defender.
Validation required
