explorer remember folder structure

I know every one here has this default Vista (even XP) problem. The
problem is that the folder customization / layout never stays the way
you set it, even minutes later after closing/re-opening explorer.

This is driving me insane. For example, in explorer under Computer I
choose large icons. Close, re-open its back to list view instead.
Sometimes other folders will somehow change views by themselves too.
This is really annoying.

Someone suggested a fix months ago, but I do not remember how. Would
appreciate tips on this. I *do* already have checked on "remember
folder's view settings" enabled as well.

Running:
Vista Ultimate 64bit w/ SP1

I tried this method, made it even worst:

Hi Chad,

Try Method Two in this tutorial. It will help Vista remember your
folder view settings for a window for when it was last closed.

'Windows Explorer Folder View settings'

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks, but does the reg file option (download option) cover the other
sections like *Disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery for Template *and
*Increase Folder View Cache Memory?*

Chad

Yes, the reg download includes all of the manual section.

Unfortunately that did not work either

It was doing ok for a while, then everything was lost yet again.

I'm sorry to hear that Chad.

Have you changed very many window folder view settings before this
happened again?

Any particular program or activity that happens to be running when this
happens?

Honestly, I only change the folder view back to what I want it to be -
after it gets screwed up basically. The only programs running generally
are Outlook, Firefox, AVG.

Chad,

Yeah, it's one of those weird quirks in Vista that no one has been able
to nail down an exact cause yet. If it doesn't happen to often, you can
just keep reapplying the reg download to make it easier to deal with for
now.

Sorry,
Shawn

Yep, even setting the same template for various folder types doesn't
stick for long. Definitely a bug yet to be sorted in Vista.
