Explorer - Selecting Files using CTRL key

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with 4gb memory,

When inside explorer, I can select continuous files by selecting the first
file and pressing the Shift key plus last file. However when I try to
select files using CTRL key plus files that are not next to each other, the
highlighting comes off and I am unable to select files properly.

Is this a known bug with Vista?

Only in your head. The two methods have completely different results,
as they were intended.

Sorry - nope.

The Control key acts exactly as it should, highlighting the individually
selected entries.

- unless you've made some other, unmentioned changes.

I agree with Ralph. You might have a bug in your system.

Try this instead:
Organize > Folder and search options > View tab. Check "Use check boxes to
select items" (it's a few lines above the bottom).

Then you won't need the Ctrl key.

The check boxes appear individually as you pass the cursor over a file
name, and go away as you move on, unless you check them.

If that doesn't work, then I'm in the dark.

Using the CTRL key when selecting files: each clicked file is added to
the selection, not the clicked and all files in between.

NOT a bug. It was not meant to work like using SHIFT and click.

It's known in some applications (MSFront Page comes to mind). I have
not heard of it in Explorer.

I suggest reading the OP.

It's quoted in what you replied to - and what I replied to:

BTW... "OP" is used to refer to the Original Poster, not the original
post.

Then I suggest understanding the OP.

Not always when I use it.

On http://acronyms.silmaril.ie/cgi-bin/uncgi/acronyms,
you can see this under "OP":

Continue to hold the ctrl key until all files are selected.
