Explorer Window Question

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Every time I open an Explorer window the directory tree on
the left side is pretty fully expanded - more expanded than
I prefer. Is there a way I can have these windows retain a
certain directory tree format, so that every time I open
such a window the directory tree is at the level of
expansion/contraction that I prefer?

Thanks.

you can use a switch to tell WE to open for example on C or another folder
instead of the stupid default one that has so many folders

to do this you must right click on the Win explorer short cut and in the
TARGET box
add this command

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,X:\

where X is the name of the drive you want to open or give the full path if
you want a folder to open

for example my setting for drive E is this

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,E:\

the /e tells WE to expand the folder, if you dont want it to expand at all
you can remove that

Hi CWLee,

You can see how to do this here from the Windows Explorer shortcut.

Thanks to On the Bridge and Brink for their suggestions. It
worked just fine.

I noticed something strange, and maybe you can explain it.
I'm using the Classic mode, and when I go Start > Programs >
Accessories I get a list that includes TWO Windows Explorer
items. As near as I can tell they are identical.

Can anyone explain that?

Thanks again guys.

Your welcome CWLee. You can check their Properties to see if they both
have the same target location. You can just delete it if it is. It could
of happen if there is a copy in both the "Open/Explore" and
"Open/Explore All Users" Start menu locations when you right click on
the Start button.

the start menu is a mesh of >>>

the all users menu
and your current user menu

so one is from the all users
and the other one is from the user you are currently logged on

There must be some difference or else they would merge into one...

Thanks again to Brink and On the Bridge. I have since
discovered a 3rd Windows Explorer, shown at the very bottom
of the listing of accessories. They all had the same target
designation, and appeared to be otherwise identical, except
for the creation dates. I deleted two of them and expect no
problems.

Thanks again.
