Explorer won't work after update

since my automatic update of SP2, my IE won't let me do anything. It
momentarily goes to my selected website and then immediately goes to http:///
and gives me the message that the website has moved etc...
(the 3 slashes is not a typo - that's what I get)
I've tried to play with the security features and tried multiple websites...
to no avail. I can access the internet through AOL which is not always an
option for me... but it tells me it's not me.... :-)

HELP!

If you are comfortable editing the registry then try this ( if not, just
navigate to the following key and post back with it's Value Data )
Go to Start, Run, and type in

regedit

Click OK. Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults

In the right frame, under Name, look for http . Under Data, the Value
should be 0x00000003. If it is not, double click on http, change the
Value Data to 3, click OK, then close the Registry Editor, and reboot
the system. Now try to go to a website with IE.

Use this registry fix from MS-MVP Mike Burgess :

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/RepairDefaultPrefix.reg

After downloading, right-click it, and choose Merge.

Did IE's behavior occur after installing SP2 ? Were you having
issues with spy|adware prior to installing SP2 but installed it anyway ?

Thanks for your help... but I did finally find the restore function which I
used to backup to prior to what was actually an SP3 update. That fixed
everything including after an auto update again...
now... re: spyware..
as a matter of fact...
I messed up with my spyware and somehow now can't auto update my Norton live
virus... that's the only obvious spyware problem I have ... I did that with
SpyBot... I prefer Adaware and am only using that one now...
Do you know how to fix the Norton problem?
I have been manually updating the virus definitions... I imagine that I
will run into problems when it's time to update the whole program but was
going to speak to them then....
unless there is something else??

Best to contact Norton and see if they have an answer.
