Exporting from WLM 2009

Now that on my XP desktop I successfully imported my OE mail into WLM
2009, my next task will be to export that WLM 2009 data to my WLM 2010
on my 64-bit Win7 laptop's WLM that is the latest version. Before I do
that though I wonder if any of you have done something like this and
found any problems with it. Would an export from the XP's WLM 2009 to a
storage medium, then an import from that medium to my laptop's WLM work
smoothly? Would it transfer all the mail and news accounts as well?

You'll need to perfrom three export steps to ensure all data is available
when moving from one pc to another.
If not using a Live ID (contacts stored online)
1. Export Contacts to a csv file
2. Export account settings (each mail and news accounts) to an iaf file
3. Export messages (use WLM09 Export function and export to blank folder)

Copy all to a portable drive (e.g. Usb thumb drive). Ensure you copy the
entire folder and subfolder structure in item 3.

WLM2011 (post install)
4. Import email and news account settings (test each for functionality).
You may have to enter your email account password in each account.
5. Import Contacts
6. Import Messages (imported messages will be present in the WLM2011
Storage folder under a subfolder called Imported Folders) - copy messages
to the correct email account, once satisfied you can delete the Imported
Folders (or retain them as archive).

FYI..If using a Live ID and ***your only account is a Hotmail type
account*** (no other email or news accounts), you can skip all the above
steps since once the same Hotmail type Live ID email account is setup in
WLM11 and its Live ID is used to logon to Windows Live in WLM your contacts
and messages will be present once a sync is performed with the Live server
in WLM.
- the above is the primary design intent of 'Live' (i.e. to be used with a
Live ID)

Separately, for new messages incoming to a 3rd party Live ID....its also
possible to do the same when that account is configured (in the Hotmail web
UI) to pull new messages data into the Hotmail web server since that
account can be configured locally in WLM to use the Live Pop3 or DeltaSync
server.

This is great! It also addresses another concern of mine: closing an
unused Hotmail account.
