External Hard Drive backup

I bought a Dell XPS 420 desktop with 750GB (TO which I added a 1 TB HD). I
was assisted to partition the 1TB hard drive, and encouraged to use an eSATA
backup drive (external). I have 4 GB memory. and a cable connection.

#1 -Is it true that you can not use the "safe to remove hardware" in Vista
without data corruption.

I bought a Western Digital 1TB external hard drive 1TB. #2 - Should I use
Acronis home backup or Acronis backup suite , as I have several partitions.
(But I read that Acronis can not make partitions that are larger than
~50gb.)

Everything is set up and ready to go until I get the answer to these
questions. I believe
Acronis is the better utility but I wonder if I will be able to understand
it and use it correctly. I understand that the Western Digital is easier.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance. Ginny

I have Acronis True Image Home 11.0. I backup a 1.5 TB RAID
partition. I am having a problem with the standalone restore, but
that is due to the RAID controller. Their tech support is working
with me to get the problem corrected.

Thank you Jim. (I enjoyed the pics of the dogs). I have the capability of
RAID but I don't have my computer configured for RAID. Ginny

In that case, you can always use the built-in `Complete PC Backup and
Restore` feature,available in the `Backup and Restore Center`(Start>All
Programs>Maintenance)

I use Vista business, regularly use the eject feature, and don't have
problems with corruption.

If you are concerned about this, *you should test it on your hardware*.

This is easy to do without risking data. Use non-critical data for your
tests.

Its also not a good idea to have only a single copy of your backup, or to
store those multiple copies on the same physical media (hard disk).

I have no idea where you read this, but I use Acronis Home and the
Workstation version, and it regularly creates partitions that are
significantly over 80 gig.

There is no substitute for doing your own testing. In addition to
providing results to the configuration that you actually have, it will show
you how it all works together.
