What is the easiest way of determining what process is accessing my external USB drive?

Thanks.

Its likely System Restore is accessing your external hard drive.

In order to turn off System Protection you need to go to Control Panel > System,
then click on the Advanced System Settings link on the left. You can also access it
by typing systempropertiesprotection.exe from the Run option.

In the System Properties tab click to unselect the checkbox beside the disk you wish
to disable. You will get a prompt asking you if you wish to continue, and if you apply,
System Protection will be disabled for that specific drive.

Open the Reliability and Performance monitor, expand the Disk section. It
lists all disk activity in real-time.

When I do that, it reports that svchost.exe or System is having a ball in
disk I/O. That is very informative. Also, since you're an MVP, why would
SearchIndexer need 900MB of ram to run? I saw this recently.

Media Player/Center library management could be monitoring the drive for new
media files as well.

I note that despite of your bogus address you are using other Microsoft
products. So what you say is utterly meaningless.
