extracting large files in vista

I am having a problem I have tried to extract a few large game demos
bioshock and moh. When I try the file locks up. I got the bioshock to work
by doing each file by itself on the moh I could not get the 1.46 gb file to
extract. I have a xps 400 with 2 gb of ram. Is there anything I can do to
fix this?

What program are you using to extract the file I would suggest using win rar

How much free disk space do you have on C:?
