Extremely slow boot and lots of errors

My computer takes about 20 min. to boot up. First it asks for my password,
then the screen is black for the other 15 min. and the error message
"Failure- Security Options- Logon process has failed to create the security
options dialog" pops up at least twice, then after its logged in the error
"Host Process has stopped working" pops up about 5 times. I just keep closing
them out. Also for some reason it keeps switching to Classic View. I've
started the computer in safe mode, and it starts right up so I'm assuming its
something with the drivers but I don't know how to fix that. I've been
reading these forums and I believe I've tried EVERYTHING on here! I'm stuck!
Computer specs are: Sony Vaio laptop with Windows Vista, Intel(R) Core 2 Duo
CPU 2.00 GHz processor, 32 bit.

Since the problem doesn't exist in Safe Mode, it *probably* isn't hardware
(it could be, but that wouldn't be my first troubleshooting avenue).

Make sure the computer is virus/malware-free first:

Be at least as thorough as outlined at the link above. If you simply scanned
with whatever antivirus program you have installed, that isn't thorough
enough.

If the machine is virus/malware-free, do clean-boot troubleshooting to
determine what programs and/or processes are causing the issue.

Saying "I believe I've tried EVERYTHING" is useless for troubleshooting
purposes. You need to enumerate what you've actually tried and the results
or you will just waste people's time when they make suggestions for things
you've already done.

If you've truly really tried "EVERYTHING" - including my two suggestions
above - back up your data and restore the computer to factory condition by
whatever method Sony provided. Otherwise, try the clean-boot - unless
you've already done it - or post back with more exact details.

the $50.00 demo works fine. I got my last copy from Walmart for $45.00.
for 30 days it's completely usable. And better than house call, since it
doesn't rely on an Internet connection to do the scan.

If it's a 1 person machine, and the password is just an annoyance..
try entering 'control userpasswords2' in the START-search bar.
Then proceed to set it to NOT need a password.

my desktop takes a good 5 minutes to boot, and it knows it's overloaded.

This could also be password related.

type msconfig in the same start search bar, and see if it isn't already set to
boot in safe mode, or some other mode. If so try booting in normal mode.

I would ask, what have you installed RECENTLY just before it started doing this
?

Then go to the Start - Search bar- enter '%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc
/s' computer management devices tab, and see what if any are flagged bad.Then
try and reinstall them. If they're on the disk, an uninstall, and reboot can
work wonders also.

you can also replace the start-search box with the RUN command, should beon
the start popup also. The search box is pretty much identical to the run
command.

Please clarify "I've tried everything".
Did you try diabling all non-Microsoft entries in your startup list shown by MsConfig.Exe?

I went to elephantboycomputers and did everything it said and it didn't find
the problem. I've tried the clean boot, and that didn't work. Before I did
any of this I had eliminated all extra start up programs possible, I've
turned off the visual enhancements, I've adjusted index options pretty much
stopping most of the indexing, I've defragged, done disc cleanup, adjusted
the power setting to high performance, I've uninstalled and reinstalled
windows updates. Now I'm getting new errors that say TCP/IP Protocol is not
installed properly (whatever that is) and MSS Menu MFC application stopped
working.

Yes, I've done the virus scan...no viruses found. So I tried this:

go to the Start - Search bar- enter '%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc
> /s' computer management devices tab, and see what if any are flagged bad and nothing was flagged but I found these things:

Direct memory access controller driver not installed, Intel ICH8 Family
smbus controller 283E driver not installed, Numeric data processor driver not
installed, Programmable interrupt controller driver not installed and system
timer driver not installed. Also now when I restart the computer it says
TCP/IP Protocol not installed properly and MSS Menu MFC Application stopped
working. Can't get on the internet either. I do not know what any of this
means. I tried to look it up on Microsoft and couldn't find anything to help
me.

I would clear the event viewer logs. Reboot and take care of th
earliest errors first

I told you how to handle these.
Uninstall them, then reboot.
Or TRY to Install them. Simplest way is 'browse my computer' - 'let me pick
from a list' - and unless you actually have the disk, select what it shows you
that you are POSITIVE is the driver. then NEXT.
Do not reboot yet. You have MANY more to fix.
When you're done then reboot.
