I want to restore my computer back to its factory setting but I will lose all
my updates, is it possible to transfer them to a disc and then move them back
once its restored? I really don't want to lose them and have to spend hours
downloading them again, thanks, deb

The only way possible is to slipstream a exsisting copy of xp with the
updates, when you do the updates it is changing many registry entries when
can not be changed over.
In the future what you can do is go to the Microsoft for I.T. Pros and down
load all the updates (the whole updates) and burn them to a disk for future
updates. If you are runnign xp with sp2, then that will be the first one you
update which will cover many of the updates that you had to do in the past
(because of roll-ups). If you have dial up then I do feel for you cause it
takes forever.

The installed updates can not be saved for reuse.
But you can download from the windows Update Catalog and burn to CD, #1 on
this link:

You can also slipstream SP-2 with your Windows XP CD:
