Hi,

I use XP-Pro + SP2.

While trying to update OS, it constantly fail to complete the installation.
The process always stops at the same point: during the generation of
restore point.
The failure message is as the follows: Fail to install catalog files. The
Events Viewer presents the combination of these two identifiers: KB936929
and error code 0x8007f01e.

Can someone help with this error ?
Happy New Year
Dudi

Your machine's Cryptographic Service and/or database seems to be
corrupt. See also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 and
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...a5e8804e0b&p=1
for you reference. Yes, that applies for your situation too.

Bye,
Freudi

See: You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

Prior to attempting another installation of SP3, suggest you first read
these articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717/

If you still have issues getting SP3 installed:

Hello Freudi,

Well, eventually I managed to overcome the problem. The articles below is
were not helpful in much.

I used Dial-a-fix(v0.60.0.24) - a collection of MS fixes to cleanup the
"mass" with my previous trials, and renamed
CatRoot2 folder (using the Recovery Console option to get into a "DOS"
command line and rename that folder).

Thanks for your advise.
Regards
Dudi
