Hi All,
This is what I receive back from MS, of course, I don't have my laptop with
me at work, so if anyone of you can try this and let me know I would
appreciate it, I will try it tonight. So here you go........
According to the Microsoft knowledge Base, our issue can occur by the
following factors:
1. Improper settings in Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
2. Corrupted Windows Update temporary folder
At this point, I suggest we first try the following steps to test the issue.
Step 1: Add svchost.exe to DEP exception list
=================
1. Right click "My Computer" and then click "Properties".
2. On the "Advanced" tab, please click "Settings" under "Performance".
3. On the "Data Execution Prevention" tab, please choose "Turn on DEP for
all programs and services except those I select":
4. Click "Add" and point to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and then select svchost.exe
5. Click OK to quit.
For more information for DEP, I would like to share the article below which
you may interest:

Windows XP SP2

Please test our issue again. If the issue persists, let's also clean up
Windows Update temporary folder to test the issue.
Step 2: Clean up Windows Update temporary folder
==========================
One possible cause is that the temporary folder for Windows Update contains
corrupted files. Let’s erase all the files there to get the system clean.
1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. We can clean up the
temporary folder for Windows Update using the following steps:
Net stop WuAuServ
2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the opened window.
Net start WuAuServ
Please check the issue again. If the issue is not resolved, please try the
following steps.
Step 3: Rename CatRoot2 folder
=================
1. Close all the open windows.
2. Click Start, click Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. Locate and open the System32 folder.
4. Find the CatRoot2 folder, right-click on it, and select RENAME. Change
the name to CR2OLD.
5. Make sure you press Enter after typing in the new name, so the changes
are executed.
Please check the issue again. Is our issue resolved?
If our issue persists after our above troubleshooting, please help me gather
the following information for further research.
System Information
============
The System Information can provide us with more information about the
current status of the system. I would like to check it for you. Please send
it to me using the following steps:
1. Click "Start", go to "Run", type in "MSINFO32" and press Enter to start
System Information.
2. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click "File", and click "Save to"
save it as an NFO file on the desktop, such as "system.nfo".
If the file is too large to be sent, please right-click on the exported
file, choose "Send To" -> "Compressed (zipped) Folder", and then send the zip
file to
v- for my further research.
Collect the latest WindowsUpdate.log file
========================
1. Click on Start, Run and type "WindowsUpdate.log" (With the quotation
marks)
2. Click on the OK button. You will see a file named "WindowsUpdate.log"
3. Now click on the "File" menu and then click on the "Save As" and select
"Desktop" in the "Save in" option on the top of the window.
4. Click on the Save button. The file will be saved onto your Desktop.
Please send the file to me as an attachment in your email to
v-.
