Dell XPS Gen 4 Win XP Pro
In Windows Update "Review your Installation History" I have some 34 files
listed as Failed or( Cancelled ... Cancelled is a new one for me)

Had this problem last year when I had Win 98 and MS Tech Svc (Onlline) tried
to help rid Windows Update of these entries and finally it worked, but I
have lost the copy of the instructions on how to do this.

This did not correct the Win Update continued failures however., and the
only way I can download and install security updates is by the monthly MS
Secrity Bulletin.

Any suggestions as to howto remove the failed entries in Win Updaate?

Hi,

Note that the history listing is not used by Windows Update in any way,
it is only created so the user of the computer can look at what have
happened over time.

It is not possible to remove some of the elements in the history
listing, if you want to remove something, the only option is to clean
out the whole history listing and start fresh.

To do this, you need to clean out the DataStore folder, you can use the
procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=11&ln=en

I would have deleted the Download folder mentioned in the link above as
well, it just contains the files used to install previous updates (the
files are supposed to be automatically removed after 10 days anyway,
but there is no harm in removing them manually).
