Failed/Cancelled items in history

In my Update History I have some failed and cancelled items. None of
these items shows up elsewhere with a Succeeded icon. However, when I
go to Add/Update Programs in Control Panel, they are there, as if they
are installed. Should I assume that they are installed? Windows
Update does not show that I need anything at this point.

*Ass*uming can be dangerous. Best to check the Security Bulletins of
said updates to ensure that the files of the updates are indeed
installed on the system.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx
Click the " Search By KB Article Number " tab and then enter the
relevant KB number that is showing as installed.
Look under the General Information, Security Update Information
subheading for the specific update for your system.
Then scroll down to the File Information section and compare the
versions of the files of the update to the ones present on the system.
Right click the files on the system, choose Properties, click the
Version tab to compare.

If WU doesn't show successful updates that failed previously, then it's
possible that the Software Distribution folder has been either renamed,
deleted, or has been cleared of all content. This would prevent WU from
showing the History of subsequent successfull installations of the
updates that showed as Failed in the past.

Never assume, find out for sure -

Qfecheck.exe Verifies the Installation of Windows XP Hotfixes:

Some users prefer: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

From Microsoft - Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.
Performs a verification by running directly on your computer, and alerts you to any updates that are
not actually installed.

Hi MowGreen,
I'm having similar problem in that my updates are successful but auto update
is not recognizing them. Would this be from deleting contents of Software
Distribution? I have a new post, auto update has lost track of my updates.

Hi PattiR,

Different issue. You're being prompted to install updates that have
apparently installed successfully. The OP lost the history of updating
on the Windows Update site. He wasn't being prompted to reinstall them
and wondered if they were indeed, installed.

Do you have any program/tool/app that is monitoring the registry ?

Hi MowGreen,
No I don't have any that I have control over. I have the free McAfee thru
AOL but I'm not sure what it does we have limited access. I have uninstalled
Spybot to install the newer version but I havrn't done that yet.
