I tried downloading all the updates that were available to me on the 11th. 2
of them installed but 7 other wouldnt. Someone gave me a link on the
microsoft site to download them singularly. I tried installing the cunulative
896688 patch, and it stalls at backing up files/creating restore point, and
really slows down my computer. Finally after about 10 minutes it stops and I
get a "failed to install catalog files" error.

Anyone know what the deal is as to why I can't get some of these updates to
install, yet others could?

Hi,

For the "Failed to install catalog files." error, deleting or renaming
the Catroot2 folder will most likely fix this problem, I have created
a batch file that does this for you.

Go to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database". Download and run it.
