Failed install with no error codes after successful download

When I try to do an update I never get an error code, I'm just informed after
downloading and attempting to install with "Update" that "Updates were
unable to be successfully installed." There is a link to "Configure automatic
updates." I've tried the various options there. When I close the window, I'm
taken to "Your results" which lists the failed updates but no error codes. It
tells me to run the "Troubleshooter" which doesn't help, or look at my update
history but it doesn't list any failed updates, only successful and cancelled
ones.

The last successful update I nstalled was on the 15th of February
(KB911927). However, if it is of any consequence it lists a successful
installation of,
"Definition Update 1.14.1288.5 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597)" which I
downloaded and installed the other day.

I have run WGADiag2.exe but it made no difference. I searched my entire hard
disk but there was no wga.log file to be found anywhere, even after running
the wga diagnostic tool again.

I have not for security reasons pasted the report here but it did report
under Genuine Validation Status: Genuine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting that you have not sccessfully installed an update since Windows
Defender updates came on the scene.
I too was running Defender and have been unable to subsequently install
updates.
I have now unstalled defender but still cannot install any updates...apart
from the WGA KB892130 which, after several hours grief ,I installed manually.

Perhaps Defender has changed the behaviour of Update?
Can't for the life of me see how or why though?
Any body any thoughts on this?

I did try, but failed, to install updates before downloading and installing
Defender. interestingly Defender said it came from a different server.

Hi VeriTeri,
We've all been having this problem and similar noninstallation issues
recently and if you read back through the forum a few days there are
shedloads of fixes and workarounds of varying degrees of complexity.Sadly
there doesn't seem to be a simple fix that works for everybody....but you
might be lucky!
Microsoft should really try to fix it I think?
Good Luck

I was having the same problem with windows installer 3.1. I went to this
webpage and downloaded it manually.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/B...D-CBE61F040027
When I restarted my computer I had quite a few updates waiting for me. Hope
this helps.
