After 4 failed installation attemps of SP2, I am a little gun shy. How can I
safely delete all files and folders regarding the downloading of this update
and regain about 75meg of lost disk space?

I searched Google for some advice, you might want to do the same, but I did
find this Discussion that might be helpful.

This post in particular,
If for some reason you don't have the add/remove option for removing SP2 try
the following.

Go into your Windows folder, and look for a folder called
$NtServicePackUninstall$ go into there and find the spuninst folder in that
folder is a file called spuninst.exe.

If you run that file it gives you the option to uninstall SP2.
