I was notified of an update for Windows XP Home, .NET FRAMEWORK, and tried to
install it. It initialized and started to install but hung up. During
installation no progress was noted after many minutes so I decided to cancel.
The install program said I needed to reboot after cancelling. When I did I
got the “Windows didn’t shut down properly message. Then after retrying all
options I got a BLUE SCREEN with the message: “MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION and
STOP: 0x0000009C ( 0x00000000, 0x805545F0, 0xA2000000, 0x8C010400).

This is my business computer I need a fix soon! I can't boot it up. Can
you help????

I am having a similar problem, except for getting the blue screen and
message. This was an automatic update for my Windows XP but it has failed to
install four times. It hangs up for about ten minutes and then disappears.
When I try to turn off my computer it get the message to leave the computer
running for the update to download and computer will turn off, but it runs
for about ten minutes and stops again. I give up!!!!!!

See: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm
0x0000009C: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The
parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have
but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it
results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus,
power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g.,
overclocking a CPU).
Error Message: STOP: 0x0000009C... {KB 329284} Win XP

You problem may be similar but it's not the same.
Alway start your own thread and provide all the relevant information, for
example what OS you're using including SP level.

Thanks all for your comments. The install may have just been pusing the
hardware
as you say. When I get home I'll pop the drive in and try it again. Thanks.
