failed sp2 install- ?database error?

I am attempting to install SP2 update; it is fully
downloaded, but only gets about 40% through installation.
Installer initializes ok, it backs up files and backs up
registry, but when it gets to "Creating Restore Point",
either during or immediately after, an error message pops
up that says "Unable to read from or write to database"
and the update fails. Any ideas?

I had the same problem but I'm not sure if disabling my antivirus program or
removing a faulty RAM module fixed it.
One of them did, but since I did both things at the same time I can't tell
which one for sure solved the "database" problem.
One thing I AM sure of is that a bad RAM module can make you crazy.

Hi

Deleting or renaming the .log files in the folder
%windir%\Security\ (and maybe in %windir%\System32\CatRoot2\
as well) should solve the problem.

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

I have created a batch file that does exactly this (and some
additional steps as well).
